THE PRACTICE TEAM
Practice Manager - Mike Smith
Our practice manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the practice. He is available to help with any administrative or non-clinical aspects of your health treatment. If you have any suggestions or complaints then please do not hesitate to either write to him or ask to meet him.
Receptionists
Our team of receptionists are here to assist you in making appointments, requesting home visits and any other enquiry. They have been trained to guide you to the most appropriate member of our team, please help them to help you. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors, nurses and all other staff.
Administration Staff
In addition to our reception team
we employ a practice administrator and a medical secretary who
assist the practice manager in helping to provide you with the best possible
service.
Nurse Practitioner / Practice Nurses
All our practice nurses are fully qualified
to advise on a wide range of health problems ranging from minor ailments to monitoring
those patients suffering from chronic illnesses such as coronary heart disease,
diabetes and asthma.
They also carry out cervical smears and vaccinations, as well as providing advice
on health issues such as smoking cessation and travelling abroad. Two members of the team have authorised to issue prescriptions.
Health Care Assistant
In addition to our practice nurses we employ a health care assistant (HCA) who is able to advise on a range of basic health problems. You can also see our HCA for new patient checks, smoking cessation and blood pressure reviews.
District Nurses
District nurses look after those patients who need nursing care at home due to their disability or illness. They form an essential part of our Primary Health Care Team, working in conjunction with our doctors, other health care professionals and Social Services. They are based at Burnage Health Centre where they can be contacted on 443 0600.
Health Visitors
Our health visitors monitor infant development, assessments, care of the under fives and their families, as well as health education for all ages. They are based at Burnage Health Centre where they can be contacted on 443 0600.
Community Midwives
The midwives are based at Burnage Children's Centre, Broadhill Road. Appointments in advance can be booked by phoning 4431668.
Locums / Medical Students
Locums
When booking an appointment you may
be asked if you would consult with a fully qualified locum doctor appointed by the practice to
provide cover during a partner's absence.
Medical Students
As a teaching practice we are fortunate
to have medical students attached to our practice for short periods. It is important
for them to talk to people about their health and illnesses as this training helps them understand
how illnesses affect people and how they cope.
We would be grateful if you could help us in this teaching. However, this is entirely
voluntary.
No one will mind if you would rather not see a student or if you change your mind
or want the student to leave at any such time. You can also refuse to see particular
students, such as those you have met outside the surgery.
Patient Participation Group
This small group provides valuable feedback to Kingsway Medical Practice, from a patient's perspective, on the services that we provide. The current members, under the chairmanship of Michael Kelly, are Carole Farrow (Secretary), Elaine Hughes, Kath Beynon and Carole Taylor. If you wish to obtain more information about the voluntary work undertaken by the PPG then please contact the chairman direct on 445 1801.
